LEARN MORE ABOUT THE FASCIA BLASTER AND HOW IT CAN HELP YOU!

Fascia is the connective tissue that runs like sheets of cobwebs between your muscles, organs, and other structures throughout your entire body. It, in actuality, encases every cell. If you were to look inside your body it would appear very much like sticky cobwebs and can get bound up in much the same manner.

Fascia is an intrinsic part of all of your connective tissues, surrounding all of your muscles, and how it pulls and moves (or not) determines how your body will look, move and feel. When bound up, it only allows your muscles to grow as much as the fascia permits! When constricted, it stiffens your body and restricts blood & lymphatic flow, setting the stage for a myriad of health issues. Same goes for your fat cells; they take the shape of the fascia encasing them.

Remember that the fascia in your body runs in layers. It is also connected THROUGH the muscles and can stick together, both deep in the body and at the surface. This can create huge lumps, bumps, and divots on your body. The fascia can also create pockets that trap the fat into pouches, like saddlebags or love handles. This can cause decreased neural connection, leading towards pain and dysfunction. Tight fascia can also restrict joints such as your knees, hips and spine, causing a host of orthopedic problems.

Many “conditions” are simply a set of symptoms that can, in most cases, be attributed to fascial recoil: pain, tightness or tension, postural issues, migraines, fibromyalgia, muscle spams, cramps and MORE! If you can relate to some or all of these symptoms from any of these stages, I have GOOD NEWS for you: IT CAN BE HELPED, and you CAN work this these issue in reverse by simply restoring your #fascia with the #FasciaBlaster!

If you’re wondering if any of your symptoms could be fascia related, check out this chart: The 7 Phases of Fascia “Freak Out”

The FasciaBlaster®, a patented tool designed by Ashley Black, is the only device on the market proven to not only break through bound up fascia (the connective tissue that can cause unsightly cellulite & restrict blood flow & nerve supply) but also break up fat cells and reshape your body. Through fascial and muscles tension release, the body can take on its most natural and “ready to condition” state. To re-sculpt your body, you can actually “lyse” fat cells which means to break them into little bits and excrete the fat from your body through natural processes. By increasing blood flow to the tissue being treated with the FasciaBlaster® an increase in lysosomal enzymes occurs. These are the enzymes that further break down fat cells.

The unique thing about this tool is that people can use it on themselves with amazing results. Even so, just like any massage and bodywork, it is beneficial to have a professional touch every now and then to help achieve your goals. And that is why we are here!

WHAT TO EXPECT IN YOUR SESSION:

This specialized bodywork often has two focuses:

  • The loosening of fascia and scar tissue.
  • To break down the walls of fat cells.

Each or both of these objectives can be addressed in a session. How we approach your session may vary depending on your objectives, of which will be discussed prior to each session.

THE YIN & YANG OF IT

As with our regular DEEPER STILL (Deep Tissue/Sports Massage) sessions, warming the areas of the body needing focus work, using various forms of heat and steam, specialized balms, analgesic oils and anti-inflammatory creams, and finishing by cooling the focus areas back down (to further reduce swelling and bruising) is crucial. So, we approach each FasciaBlaster® session in a similar manner. The biggest difference is that we incorporate the FasciaBlaster® into the session. We also make sure thoroughly heat up EVERY area specifically worked with the FasciaBlaster®. Effectively heating up the areas to be blasted is crucial to this bodywork. It helps in getting deeper, with definite results, without being as invasive. This is especially important in areas where there is more sensitivity. Each area blasted is also followed with a soothing lymphatic massage, a crucial step in supporting the body to move out all the ‘stuff’ that has been loosened up. So yes, depending how long of a session you request, it can be a much more intensive, but thoroughly rejuvenating session.

Depending on the person, sometimes the thicker fascia doesn’t release for several minutes, or it is not ready to release at all that day. What is key is that we do NOT use force when doing this work and we ALWAYS focus on BODY COMFORTABLE and BODY BREATHING. If you can’t take a slow relaxing breath into the work, then we both know the work is TOO DEEP. Using force can actually be more damaging to your tissues and begin a vicious cycle of creating persistent trigger points that require you to keep breaking them down to maintain movement.

* We also offer Face Massage using the FasciaBlaster, which addresses the more delicate areas around the face, scalp and neck. We use a smaller, lighter, and specially designed FasciaBlaster that is made for working these areas. Since the skin of the face is more delicate, we also ensure that we use cleansers, creams and oils formulated for use on the face. This tool can also be used in our Ayruvedic Hot Oil Hair Head Massage
as well as our & Reflexology sessions.

Though not required, it is highly recommended you consider adding the THE HEAT IS ON! (Infrared Sauna). Though we do still use heat compresses in your session, the infrared wrap ensures an overall body warming effect that thoroughly penetrates to the deepest levels of tissue, adding another level of effectiveness to each session. Much like stretching and warming up the body before a work out when exercising, pre-warming in such a manner helps to make the deeper work easier to receive and reduces the chances of an inflammatory response.

(Please keep in mind, if you are a couple, that we only have one Infrared Heat Wrap available to use during each session.)

So, now that we know we need the heat to soften up the tissues and what has been found is that we REALLY need the heat to soften up fascia. The heat actually turns the fascia into a state that is a bit like jelly. Studies have shown though that this gelatinous state only last about 15 to 20 minutes (at best) before it begins to stiffen back up. Hence, the more heat that is used, the better this process. This is why at our spa we focus so much in making sure we have sufficiently heated up the tissues before doing any deep tissue work, especially when we begin the process of dealing with fascial adhesions. Sufficient heat, being reapplied throughout the session, helps the tissues be more pliable and less prone to injury.

BUT…heat also brings in fluid and blood to areas that are often also in a chronic inflamed state. This can create a body with too much ‘yang’ and where it becomes helpful to balance the body with more cooling ‘yin’. Bringing in cool not only reduces that inflamed response to all the heat, it causes an immediate retraction of all of the tissue, stimulating the lymphatic and circulatory systems…AND it helps harden the fascia back down WHERE YOU WANT IT TO STAY after you have blasted it! We tailor this balancing to each individual and can bring in several methods for this cooling down phase, which can include cooled towels, stones, ice packs and cooling balms.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS:

Be sure to come to your session as HYDRATED as possible. This is crucial to ensuring the best possible response from your body to the treatment. If possible, before your session, internally warm up your body with exercise, steam rooms, hot showers, ect. Though we do use external heat sources during your session, internal heating is also very supportive to your session.

Even when done lightly, Fascia Blasting is a DEEP TISSUE body work. All contraindications for deep tissue also apply when using the FasciaBlaster®. Depending on how bound up the tissues are, to be effective, this type of bodywork can be painful or uncomfortable at times, sometimes even more so than other kinds of deep tissue bodywork. Though this does not mean it will occur on everyone, because of the nature of this body work, and depending on the condition of the fascia, bruising also can occur. Sometimes this bruising will not show up until a day or two after the session. The old tissue must be broken down so that healthy tissue can grow and renew the areas worked on. The damaged tissue gets reabsorbed into the body through various path ways and gets eliminated through the blood, liver, kidneys, skin, urine and bowels.

Many contraindications for FasciBlasting are the same for most Deep Tissue massage and bodywork. Because we are specifically working up on breaking through fascial adhesions though, the contraindications become even more important to pay attention to. People should avoid this treatment if under the care of a physician and you are told NOT to receive deep tissue bodywork, have a history of blood clots, (THE FasciaBlaster® DOES NOT CAUSE BLOOD CLOTS, but if you have any history of deep vein thrombosis or a blood clot, the clot could be held in place by dysfunctional fascia. If you open the fascia and release it, the consequences could be deadly. We do not play around with this. GET FULL CLEARANCE BY ULTRASOUND FROM THE DOCTOR), if you are on ANTICOAGULANT blood thinners, have a bleeding disorder, have uncontrolled congestive heart failure (CHF), have abnormalities in your circulatory system or heart rhythms, have Thrombophlebitis, Pulmonary Embolism, Meningitis or any other acute stage of infection, are in treatment for cancer, have Neoplasms, are pregnant, are afraid of potential bruising, have any skin conditions that can be irritated by friction, breakouts or rashes, or are under high amounts stress.

* Unless pre-arrangements have been made, all of our 30 minute Focus – Duet (Couple) and Great Escape sessions are done with one therapist within an hour block of time. For the best possible experience we actually encourage this, for while one person is being worked on by the therapist, it allows for the other person to sink into a deeper state of relaxation with the hot towels we use. Two therapists can be arranged, but is based on the availability of the 2nd therapist. If you would still like to see if we can schedule the Focus sessions at the same time, please let us know when you place your reservation.
